How Wolves Change Rivers & Ecosystem (www.youtube.com)

Positive impact of increasing the number of wolves in the Yellowstone National Park.

Wolves in general have been given an unflattering image. Here is a superb video from National geographic on the positive impact of increasing the number of wolves in the Yellowstone National Park.

When wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park in the United States after being absent nearly 70 years, the most remarkable “trophic cascade” occurred.  A trophic cascade is an ecological process which starts at the top of the food chain and tumbles all the way down to the bottom.

In a small number of years, the introduction of wolves resulted in many changes including increasing the number of small animals, vegetation and the general improvement of ecosystem. The interesting part however is how the introduction of wolves, resulted in changing the Course of the River itself.

We have to agree we do not yet know the expanse of how inter connected Nature is and the impact on each organism on others.

Watch the video to wonder!
